Learning To Embrace My Curly Hair

Looking in the mirror I cringed.

“Damn it!” I mumbled under my breath while running both hands through my now insanely poufy and frizzy hair.

This was the result of taking a shower last night and not having the patience, nor taking the time to let my curly hair dry before going to bed. Now standing up in all directions — my hair had developed into a frizz ball, making me look like lovely Mr. Einstein.

Yep I know, so attractive — damn!

Itching to grab my flat iron hair straightener to destroy this pathetic frizzy look — I caught myself just in time. Taking deep breaths, I reminded myself that I needed to learn to embrace my curls instead of fighting them all the time.

Dying Curls

I always felt my curls were more of a curse rather than a blessing. I spend hours in front of the mirror, flat ironing my curls, aiming for straight, smooth, and shiny hair.

Always focusing on the negative aspects rather than looking at the benefits my curls provided me with, I was making my life miserable and more complicated than it had to be.

All in all, I wasn’t taking care of my hair as I should have. I spent years fighting my curls, ironing them for hours at times, frying the living crap out of them, instead of learning…
