The Most Spine-Chilling Fairy Tale Story
Growing up, I read a lot of fairy tales and found myself deeply drawn to them.
I would find a comfortable spot around the house and spend hours on hand reading and re-reading stories out of that big old fairy tale book my family owned.
I would pretend to be a character in every story I read. My imagination took me to many exotic places, castles, beanstalks, glistening seas, breweries, old towers, and enchanted forests. Sometimes, I would forget where I was, and if it hadn’t been for my dear mom and my siblings pulling me back to reality, I’d be lost in them forever.
All the stories fascinated me, yet there was a particular one that I was especially drawn to. It was the most frightening and exciting story out of all the fairy tales. It was a story that, by thought, made my neck hair stand up in fright and would have my heart pounding absurdly whenever I started reading it.
The story of Hansel and Gretel.
The only story that I never wished to be a character in, but despite my pure angst towards it felt especially drawn to.
The mysterious walk through the forest. The trail of breadcrumbs left behind. The darkness, that followed after dusk. Alone. Scared. Hungry. Only to find a clearing in the woods with a delicious house on it…
